Whitney Linen to Make Official Debut at World MasterCard Fashion Week

TORONTO – Fresh off the launch of a brand new online shopping boutique, Whitney Linen gets set to hit the runway during the fall’s hottest fashion event, World MasterCard Fashion Week. Whitney Linen’s highly anticipated couture collection will debut on the Studio runway at David Pecaut Square on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 5pm.

Taking inspiration from the cobbled streets and fields of flowers in the south of France, and the white sands and turquoise waters of the Caribbean, the Whitney Linen couture line is comprised of structured statement pieces that push the boundaries of what’s traditionally expected from linen. “We wanted to create a collection that would be equally appropriate for a black tie in Yorkville and the sunny streets of Turin,” says Whitney Westwood, President of Whitney Linen.

The Whitney Linen couture collection takes a fashion-forward approach to the ancient textile, tailoring bold shapes for both day and evening wear. “Linen is such a versatile, eco-friendly fabric, but too often designers focus on drab basics, favouring boxy or shapeless silhouettes. For our couture collection, we wanted to create something unexpected. We focused on creating structure through pleats and hand-sewn freshwater pearl detailing,” says Westwood.

Whitney Westwood has been part of the fashion industry for nearly two decades, working behind the scenes with the likes of Gucci, Hermès and Valentino. “My love of a timeless aesthetic started when I was just a child. My parents brought Hermès to Toronto and I grew up surrounded by the elegant colours and patterns of the silk scarves and leather bags,” Whitney says.

Designer Franciska Veress has more than eight years of experience in the fashion industry. She shares Whitney’s love of natural fabrics, and has a vision to bring linen into the twenty-first century. “Linen is really the perfect fabric to work with—it’s eco-friendly, and made without the use of petrochemicals. Linen also just looks better the more it’s worn,” says Veress.

“Travelers have long looked to linen as a way to keep cool in hot climates, but Whitney Linen really takes it to next level, with pieces that are perfect for both the working woman and the jet-setter,” says Westwood. Whitney Linen already counts Gwyneth Paltrow among its fans, and Westwood looks forward to being part of World MasterCard Fashion Week.

About Whitney Westwood: Whitney Westwood, the founder of Whitney Linen, got her start in the fashion world as an international model with Elite. She has spent the past two decades working in fashion representation, event planning, marketing and PR, and more recently as a partner in an online fashion and lifestyle magazine. About Franciska Veress: Franciska Veress emigrated from Hungary to Toronto in 2001 where she worked to immerse herself in the fashion industry. She got her start as a production assistant for fashion shows and galas, and eventually went on to create her own line of accessories. Veress partnered with Whitney Westwood in 2012 to co-design Whitney Linen’s first ever high-fashion collection.
